Fic about the Hugo brouhaha
Sep. 28th, 2019 01:45 pmThis is delightful.
It was linked - by Hugo winning author RedWombat - in the middle of the comments on the File770 post that is itself linked in the summary before the story. Recursive enough for you? :P
I'm not all the way through the comments, yet, but recognized about 12 barely changed remarks.
I laughed very hard.

In other news, I can tell I've been on Reddit too much because I'm automatically putting two spaces after the sentence even where I'm going to start a new paragraph. (For those unfamiliar with Reddit's craziness, that's how you MAKE it start a new line. Otherwise, it runs it all together.)

Hugo Trademark, AO3 Hugo Win Linkspam
I have to admit that my opinion of them wasn't that high to begin with, seeing as my first exposure to them was Kevin Standlee's condescension, derision, and mansplaining in the comments of the AO3 announcement:
Hugo Award – What it Means
I think my absolute favorite take on it is Naomi Novik's (astolat's) on tumblr:
Hugos
The best bit:
Personally I think the WSFS needs to worry about a handful of Twitter jokes and pins about as much as JKR and Warner Bros need to worry about the handmade Harry Potter potion bottles that were on sale in the Worldcon dealers room, and if their trademark committee really does have any sincere worries, they should go talk to a lawyer instead of posting online about it.
I love how she casually points out that:
A) they don't seem too worried about other people's trademarks
B) there's a better, legal-and-could-actually-be-effective method (although synecdochic absolutely blasts that thought into smithereens with facts and legal code citations)
