elderwittyMy laptop is dead. (I confess it was murdered.)
I've been having issues with the annoying thing since January. Was going to have to look into getting a new one, when Walter the Magnificent announced that he was giving me his old Macbook as he was planning to buy a shiny new one very soon (and wouldn't take no for an answer this time - I'd refused the previous one [stupid Midwestern upbringing]). All I had to do was baby the old one along 'til the Chicago con, where he can give me pointers on how to use the (vastly superior) Mac. Awesome! (This is the second computer he'll have given me. In the mid-90s he built me a desktop out of spare bits he and the hubby had laying around and shipped it across the continent to me. Isn't he the bestest?)
Sadly, the laptop has thwarted this perfectly doable plan, by being recalcitrant and impossible to get along with, forcing me to Hulk!smash it. Yes, I know that this is not a technique designed to promote long life in electronics, but A)I didn't hit it until it developed massive problems and B)the fucker deserved everything it got. :growl:
So, for the next three weeks, I will be on the desktop. It's old, it's slow, the good version of Freecell is on it (oh, the time sucking horror!), the chair is NOT comfy (by reclining chair standards, anyway). It is in no way ideal. But since it's my fault for loosing my temper on the stubborn laptop, I'll just have to deal with it. I doubt I'll be either surfing/reading as much as I usually do - which is probably a good thing, no matter how I feel about it.

Date: 2011-07-31 08:16 pm (UTC)There was a problem with the Giant McShep AU List page. The list page actually was blank of all stories, so I went to the last page update (7/29) that had the stories in it, and restored it from that.
And now, off to nap! :)
