Thank you to the lovelies who sent holiday cards (
elayna,
mific,
ruric, &
superbadgirl). Yours are on their way, and I hope to get mine out much, much earlier next year later this year.
elayna's was particularly on point, with four adorable kittens dangling snug in their stockings ... and one who'd dived in head first and left his little orange keister hanging out. I think neither he nor I was using the Orange Cat Shared BraincellTM.
My holiday effort was, in a word, a shitshow. Eventually, enough stuff just kept piling on that I ended up having to laugh at it all.
I make photo calendars, for myself and others, through Walgreens. (Get the ones they print and ship to you, not the ones they do in-store.)
Anyway, I dicked around and didn't get it done until the second week of December. Paid extra shipping so they'd be here by the 20th, in time for the family party on the 21st.
Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, the recipes were fighting me every step of the way. (Sometimes it's like that.)
The calendars did not arrive on the 20th. They didn't arrive until the 24th. (Walgreens refunded the shipping, which was nice.)
A present for one of my nieces (Grinch slippers) not only wouldn't arrive until January, but they charged shipping (though it was ordered through a Prime account). They're sitting in my kitchen right now.
While hanging up the new calendar before leaving work on the 31st, I realized that I hadn't changed the year ... so they're worthless (until 2052, which has the same day/dates at 2024). Luckily, I hadn't vanquished all the baked goods, so hadn't mailed the two out of town presents.
Here's a question - why doesn't the Walgreens site ask are sure you want to order eight calendars for a year that has three weeks left in it? Don't they know we're all fucking stressed this time of year?
Also, we're super-understaffed at work but, according to our Board, that shouldn't keep us from doing ALL THE THINGS, including some of their things.
My spoons are toast.
Anyway, though I'd written out all the holiday cards, I hadn't mailed them because it didn't seem fair that the international ones couldn't go at the same time, because I didn't have stamps for them. (Toast symptom if ever I've heard one.)
The corrected calendars finally arrived Thursday. Yesterday being a holiday, I took the packages and all the cards to the Post Office this morning (in 7°F) and sent them off. (Also bought extra international stamps so they can all go earlier next year.)
