The June Something - Season 03 Episode 14
Jun. 14th, 2021 04:44 pmDay 14: What fandom broke your heart?
I was gonna say 'None', but then I read other people's answers and realized...'Yup'.
Stargate: Atlantis - (stopped watching after it was killed by Mallozi, Wright, et al)
It wasn't just that Atlantis was on Earth, that John was odd man out in the relationship stakes, that Teyla was separated by two galaxies from her family, that Ronon was fine and dandy after his recent untimely death and resurrection, that Keller was so very WRONG for Rodney (fucking writer self-insert, ugh).
The fact that the showrunners obviously stopped giving a fuck - flying or otherwise - about our beloved space adventure/comedy/drama, but were too fucking selfish to turn it over to other showrunners really chapped my ass.
Hang on a mo. According to a comment by helenkacan on on this article, they traded SGA Season 6 away for a shit show to be canceled later.
After the cancellation of SGA (which supposedly had "nothing" to do with the greenlighting of SGU), TPTB finally admitted that they'd been offered a guaranteed choice: 1 final season of SGA and 1 season of SGU OR only 2 seasons of SGU). Well, we know what they chose.
Ctrl-F 'TPTB finally admitted' to see the whole comment:
How shortsighted and stupid do you have to be to throw away a money-making show that's getting some of the best ratings in its history?
Pretty gorram stupid, as evidenced by their belief that they didn't need the [older skewing, mostly female, gross] fans to support their dark, Battlestar Galactica shaky-cam wannabe, demo boy baiting new series - - and also their bitter accusations that the lack of those self-same rejected viewers caused the execrable show to fail after its initial order (remember, SciFi ordered two full seasons based on the franchise's previous successes and the trade-in on SGA Season 6).
Hawaii Five-0 - (stopped after Chin's niece was rescued from a stupid plotline in Mexico)
The whole no-homo fear that made them drop the bromance and have Steve and Danny endlessly snipe at each other instead.
The utter disrespect shown to Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park by adding all those new characters 'to give Alex and Scott a break'. WRITE FOR THE OTHER TWO MAIN CHARACTERS, ASSHOLES!!!
The utter disrespect shown to Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park during salary negotiations.
Danny cheating with his ex-wife, who'd done nothing but denigrate him and try to keep him from his daughter.
Danny's the cop, so why the fuck is Steve pontificating about procedures and shit?
Wo Fat was apparently born on Krypton, since he should have died at least three or four times before he finally did.
NCIS - (stopped when Tony's sendoff was straight out of badfic)
The white hat hero is a murderer, conspirator to murder (both before and after the fact), a lazy ass who takes eleventy coffee runs a day, and the world's worst supervisor who uses both verbal and physical abuse as he blithely pretends that the chain of command stops at him.
The smart as a whip, cool goth science chick turns into a giant whiny toddler who'll throw any tantrum she has to in order to stay 'the favorite'.
The 'best young agent I've ever worked with' turns into a feckless clown who needs help to find his ass with both hands. And then apparently decides to fuck the Israeli spy who's verbally and physically abused him for years (when she isn't ignoring his orders and fucking up their conviction rate with her illegal goings on).
And let's not talk about the suspect she killed in the elevator.

Date: 2021-06-15 12:34 am (UTC)Screw TPTB for ignoring their own character development, for turning friends into enemies, for making shitty plot decisions for shock factor, for sticking to the same old tired status quo because it's easier, for disregarding their audience.
Screw them!
The June Something - Season 03 Episode 14
Date: 2021-06-15 01:11 am (UTC)I can't decide if it's lazy writing, or uninspired. Why do they always have to turn a good thing into shit by doing the most trite, overdone plots ever? Ugh.

Date: 2021-06-15 07:54 pm (UTC)The SGA showrunners did a lot to irritate me during the show's run (Ronon's hair, anyone? There were SO MANY ways they could have worked cutting Ronon's hair into a storyline, but NO...), and the final shitshow was just. GAH. *throws hands up*
I left H50 before you did, I think, in terms of watching the show. I think I made it to Season 4, thereabouts, and the terrible ways they were ignoring DDK and Grace Park were already obvious, Wo Fat was So Tired, I didn't like what they did to Lori (OK, I remember, I quit watching as Grover came on the scene) -- and ultimately I just couldn't handle the way they so casually trampled human rights and good procedure. They're supposed to be the good guys, why are they torturing people, ugh.
The June Something - Season 03 Episode 14
Date: 2021-06-15 10:51 pm (UTC)So, let's pretend that nobody could come up with a reason for Ronon to cut his hair, such as: the end of X years of mourning Melena and/or Sateda, a rite of passage as he reaches his Satedan majority, marks a certain number of Wraith/enemies killed, it's a hindrance in hand to hand, etc. Yet, somehow none of the writers could come up with anything in the weeks or months they had to consider it. I mean, I'm no genius and came up with four in five minutes (most of which was spent verifying how to spell Melena's name).
In this pretend scenario, Ronon simply had to have the hair, but Jason needed it cut off for his health, so a wig was be a reasonable option.
HOWEVER.
I - who have never even considered making a wig before - could have come up with a better version than that Little Lulu piece of shit Jason got stuck with. I strongly suspect that the person who made it had not only never seen Jason Momoa's hair, but was unfamiliar with anyone whose hair wasn't 1000% caucasian. My god, they could have snipped off the dreads and sewn them onto a fuzzy porkpie hat and it would have been a better result. I should probably mention that I am the whitest of white girls and don't have much experience with hair other than my own personal crop, and I still think I could have made a better go of it than whichever intern they tasked with the job.
Ask for H50 - I watched that episode almost two years after it aired. I was trying sooooo hard to fall back in love with the show, but just couldn't do it. All the stuff we've brought up acted as an anchor to drown my affection at the bottom of a cliche-filled ocean. :D
Re: The June Something - Season 03 Episode 14
Date: 2021-06-16 03:37 pm (UTC)Like, SO MANY in-character and in-universe ways to make Ronon's haircut a good plot point! And they went with...THAT. Ugh.
I just. Man, all the actors in the show were FAR better than the writing/showrunners gave them credit for; Jason Momoa in particular gave Ronon so many more layers than the 'HURR BRUTE MUSCLE' the showrunners clearly thought was all Ronon was good for.
MAN. I really need to find more SGA people to yell with. :D:D:D
Re: The June Something - Season 03 Episode 14
Date: 2021-06-17 12:14 am (UTC)That was a great series! There was absolutely NO reason for them not to have made a better wig...unless they'd already decided to end the series and so no longer gave a shit.
I think casting was the area where they had the most success - and that's probably due more to the casting agent/agency than the showrunners.
Imagine this - the multiverse theory tells us that there's a universe out there where SGA is still on the air. Can you imagine the shenanigans they're getting up to at this point? Of course, in order for that to be true Wright and Mallozi would have had to hand it over to others while they fucked off to play with their shaky cam show. So the plots are clever and intriguing, the science is [mostly] accurate, the women are only vacuous when they're making people underestimate them, and McShep have been cohabitating since shortly before the Wraith were defeated. And though it took a while, TPTB finally convinced John to let the younger troops (whose knees don't creak) take over the first contact missions.
LOL! C'mon in, the ranting's fine!
