Oscar festivities

Had a blast in Asheville at Carli's annual Oscar party.

Sure, I took the wrong light rail line and didn't get to the airport at 10:30am as planned, but that was okay, because the flight wasn't at 12:30pm like I thought. It was at 10:25am, and I'd already messed up the moment I staggered out of bed. Delta ticket agent was a star, though, and got me out the same day, without even charging me the usual $50 re-booking fee. Might he have been charmed by my opening announcement that, "I'm having a 'stupid day' and I just want to warn you about it before we start" followed by borrowing his pen to write 'Stupid' on my itenerary? Had to slam my big cup o' water before it could go through the X-ray, much to the amusement of the TSA agent. I want to comply, but I'm stoopid (not often - but that day...yes). What else could I do, though? It was completely and utterly my own fault. Might as well have a giggle with the folks at my expense, yeah? Two layovers and a mechanical delay later, I arrived in Asheville just before midnight. This gave me the rare opportunity to pee in four states in one day. (Hey, on a day like that you take your victories where you can.)
For the party proper, you can wear formal attire, as if attending the ceremony, or you can come as a character. I planned on Julia Child, then nixed it. (There were 4 Julia/Julies.) Next was the old man from Up, 'til I realized I'd have to find a suit and dress shoes. Nope. So, obviously, the only other option was Dug, the dog from Up. I'd have to buy fabric and a pattern and sew a shirt (for the first time), get pants, ears, a collar, a light, a tail, a cone of shame, and googly Pixar eyeballs. SSSSoooooo much less work than finding a suit at the Goodwill. :snerk:
Even better - when I came downstairs after putting on the Cone of ShameTM, and was sent outside to the portrait area, it turned out that Leslie has decided to come as Russell. No plan, just serendipity.

And here's a picture of our photographer Katie (Carli's daughter) as Breakfast at Tiffany's.
